Commutative Algebra, chapter III, § 2. General results on filtered rings and modules

Let AA be a filtered commutative ring and (An)(A_n) its filtration; suppose that there exists a subring CC of A0A_0 such that C∩An={0}C \cap A_n = \{0\} and CC is identified with a subring of gr0(A)\mathrm{gr}_0(A). Let (xi)1≤i≤q(x_i)_{1 \leq i \leq q} be a finite family of elements of AA; suppose that xi∈Anx_i \in A_n, for 1≤i≤q1 \leq i \leq q and let ξi\xi_i be the class of xix_i in grni(A)\mathrm{gr}_{n_i}(A) for 1≤i≤q1 \leq i \leq q.

(i) If the family (ξi)(\xi_i) of elements of gr(A)\mathrm{gr}(A) is algebraically free over CC, the family (xi)(x_i) is algebraically free over CC.

(ii) If the filtration on AA is exhaustive and discrete and (ξi)(\xi_i) is a system of generators of the CC-algebra gr(A)\mathrm{gr}(A), then (xi)(x_i) is a system of generators of the CC-algebra AA.

Let A′A' be the polynomial algebra C[X1,…,Xq]\mathbf{C}[X_1, \ldots, X_q] over C\mathbf{C}; let A′A' be given the graduation (An′)(A'_n) of type Z\mathbf{Z} where AnA_n is the set of C\mathbf{C}-linear combinations of the monomials X1s(1)…Xqs(q)X_1^{s(1)} \ldots X_q^{s(q)} such that ∑i=1qnis(i)=n\sum_{i=1}^q n_i s(i) = n. Let uu be the homomorphism f↦f(x1,…,xq)f \mapsto f(x_1, \ldots, x_q) from the C\mathbf{C}-algebra A′A' to the C\mathbf{C}-algebra AA; by definition, u(An′)⊂Anu(A'_n) \subset A_n for all n∈Zn \in \mathbf{Z} and hence uu is compatible with the filtrations (A′)(A') being given its filtered ring structure associated with its graded ring structure, cf. no. 1, Example 1). This being so, the hypothesis of (i) means that

gr(u):A′=gr(A′)→gr(A) \mathrm{gr}(u): A' = \mathrm{gr}(A') \to \mathrm{gr}(A)

is injective; as the filtration on A′A' is exhaustive and separated, Corollary 1 to Theorem 1 of no. 8 may be applied and uu is injective, which proves the conclusion of (i). Similarly, the hypothesis (ii) on the (\&) means that gr(u)\mathrm{gr}(u) is surjective; as AA is discrete and its filtration is exhaustive, Corollary 2 to Theorem 1 of no. 8 may be applied and uu is surjective, which proves the conclusion of (ii).

Bourbaki puts the proof directly after the statement, so what is above is the statement and its proof together.
