Commutative Algebra, chapter III, § 2. General results on filtered rings and modules

Let AA be a commutative ring and mm a maximal ideal of AA. The Hausdorff completion A^\hat{A} of AA with respect to the mm-adic topology is a local ring whose maximal ideal is mm.

If a=⋂k≥1mka = \bigcap_{k \geq 1} m^k, A^\hat{A} is the completion of the Hausdorff ring A/aA/a associated with AA and, as m/am/a is maximal in A/aA/a, we may assume that AA is Hausdorff with respect to the mm-adic topology. As A/mA/m and A^/m^\hat{A}/\hat{m} are isomorphic rings (no. 12, formula (21)), mm is maximal in A^\hat{A}. As the topology on A^\hat{A} is defined by the filtration (mn)∗(m^n)^* (no. 12), the proposition will be a consequence of the following lemma:

Bourbaki puts the proof directly after the statement, so what is above is the statement and its proof together.
