Commutative Algebra, chapter V, § 1. Notion of an integral element

Let AA be a ring and RR a (Commutative)A-algebra. The set of elements &R\& R integral over AA is a subalgebra of RR.

In fact, if x,yx, y are two elements of RR integral over AA, it follows from Proposition 4 that A[x,y]A[x, y] is a finitely generated A-module; as it contains x+yx + y and xyxy, the corollary follows from Proposition 1.

In a non-commutative algebra the sum and product of two integral elements over AA are not necessarily integral over AA (Exercise 4).

Bourbaki puts the proof directly after the statement, so what is above is the statement and its proof together.
