Commutative Algebra, chapter V, § 1. Notion of an integral element

Let A be an integral domain, K its field of fractions and x an element of a K-algebra K (not necessarily commutative). *If x is integral over A, the coefficients of the minimal polynomial PP of xx over KK are integral over AA (and they therefore belong to AA if AA is integrally closed).

There exists by hypothesis (no. 1, Theorem 1) a monic polynomial Q∈A[X]Q \in A[X] such that Q(x)=0Q(x) = 0. As PP divides QQ in K[X]K[X], it follows from Proposition 11 that the coefficients of PP are integral over AA.

Let AA be a ring and RR a (commutative) AA-algebra; the homomorphism ϕ:A→R\phi : A \to R defining the AA-algebra structure on RR can be extended uniquely to a homomorphism A[X]→R[X]A[X] \to R[X] of polynomial rings over AA and RR, leaving XX invariant and hence R[X]R[X] is given a canonical A[X]A[X]-algebra structure.

Bourbaki puts the proof directly after the statement, so what is above is the statement and its proof together.
