Commutative Algebra, chapter VI, § 8. Extensions of a valuation to an algebraic extension

Suppose that LL is a finite extension of KK. For v′v' to be discrete, it is necessary and sufficient that vv be discrete. If v′v' is discrete, Γv′\Gamma_{v'} is isomorphic to a non-zero subgroup of Z\mathbf{Z} (Corollary 2) and hence to Z\mathbf{Z}. Conversely, if vv is discrete, Γv\Gamma_v is isomorphic to Z\mathbf{Z} and Γv′/Γv\Gamma_{v'}/\Gamma_v is a finite group (Lemma 2); hence Γv′\Gamma_{v'} is a finitely generated commutative group of rank 1 and torsion-free; consequently it is isomorphic to Z\mathbf{Z}.

Bourbaki puts the proof directly after the statement, so what is above is the statement and its proof together.
