Commutative Algebra, chapter VII, § 4. Modules over integrally closed Noetherian domains

Let U, V, W be three vector spaces of finite rank over K and f: U × V → W a left non-degenerate K-bilinear mapping (Algebra, Chapter IX, § 1, no. 1, Definition 3). If M is a lattice of V and N a lattice of W, the set N: ,M of x ∈ U such thatf (x, y) ∈ N for ally ∈ M is a lattice of U.

Let sf:U→Hom⁡K(V,W)s_f: U \to \operatorname{Hom}_K(V, W) be the K-linear mapping left associated with ff (Algebra, Chapter IX, loc. cit.) such that sf(x)s_f(x) is the linear mapping y↦f(x,y)y \mapsto f(x, y); recall that to say that ff is left non-degenerate means that sfs_f is injective. By Proposition 3 (iv), N:MN: M is a lattice of Hom⁡K(V,W)\operatorname{Hom}_K(V, W); as N:fM=sf−1(N:M)N: fM = s_f^{-1}(N: M) and sfs_f is injective, the corollary follows from Proposition 3 (ii).

Examples

(4) Let SS be a (not necessarily associative) K-algebra of finite rank with a unit element; then the bilinear mapping (x,y)↦xy(x, y) \mapsto xy of S×SS \times S to SS is (left and right) non-degenerate. If MM and NN are lattices of SS with respect to AA, so are M.NM.N (Proposition 3 (iii)) and the set of x∈Sx \in S such that xM⊂NxM \subset N (Corollary to Proposition 3). Note that there exists a sub-A-algebra of SS containing the unit element of SS which is a lattice of SS; for consider a basis (ei)1≤i≤n(e_i)_{1 \leq i \leq n} of SS such that e1e_1 is the unit element of SS and let eiej=∑kcijkeke_i e_j = \sum_k c_{ijk} e_k be the multiplication table of SS (1≤i≤n,1≤j≤n1 \leq i \leq n, 1 \leq j \leq n), so that c1jk=δjk,ci1k=δikc_{1jk} = \delta_{jk}, c_{i1k} = \delta_{ik} (Kronecker symbols). Let s∈As \in A be a non-zero and such that cijk′=s⋅cijk∈Ac'_{ijk} = s \cdot c_{ijk} \in A for all triplets of indices (i,j,k)(i, j, k); if we write ei′=s−1eie'_i = s^{-1} e_i for i≥2i \geq 2, then

ei′ej′=scij1′e1′+∑k≥2cijk′ek′ e'_i e'_j = s c'_{ij1} e'_1 + \sum_{k \geq 2} c'_{ijk} e'_k

for i≥2i \geq 2 and j≥2j \geq 2; the lattice of SS with basis e1e_1 and the ei′e'_i (2≤i≤n2 \leq i \leq n) is a sub-A-algebra of SS with unit element e1e_1.

(5) Let VV be a finite-dimensional vector space over KK and ff a non-degenerate bilinear form on VV. If MM is a lattice of VV, it follows from the Corollary to Proposition 3 that the set Mf∗M^*_f of x∈Vx \in V such that f(x,y)∈Af(x, y) \in A for ally ∈M\in M is also a lattice of VV; if sf:V→V∗s_f: V \to V^* is the linear mapping left associated with ff (which is bijective), sf(Mf∗)s_f(M^*_f) is just the dual lattice M∗M^* of MM.

Bourbaki puts the proof directly after the statement, so what is above is the statement and its proof together.
