Commutative Algebra, chapter VII, § 4. Modules over integrally closed Noetherian domains

If M, M' are two lattices of V such that M' \subset M, M/M' is a finitely generated torsion A-module and:

χ(M,M′)=−χ(M/M′). \chi(M, M') = -\chi(M/M').

Clearly M/M' \subset V/M' is a finitely generated torsion module; on the other hand, for all p∈Pp \in P, we know (Algebra, Chapter VII, § 4, no. 2, Theorem 1) that there exist bases (ei)1≤i≤n(e_i)_{1 \leq i \leq n} of M, and (ei′)1≤i≤n(e'_i)_{1 \leq i \leq n} of Mp′M'_p such that ei′=πvieie'_i = \pi^{v_i} e_i for 1≤i≤n1 \leq i \leq n and integers vi≥0v_i \geq 0, π\pi being a uniformizer of ApA_p. Therefore (in the notation introduced above) np′−np=∑i=1nvin'_p - n_p = \sum_{i=1}^n v_i; and on the other hand,

(M/M′)p=Mp/Mp′(M/M')_p = M_p/M'_p
is isomorphic to the torsion A,-module ⨁i=1nAp/pviAp\bigoplus_{i=1}^n A_p/p^{v_i} A_p and hence its length is ∑i=1nvi\sum_{i=1}^n v_i, which proves the proposition, in view of (5) and Definition 4 of no. 5.

Bourbaki puts the proof directly after the statement, so what is above is the statement and its proof together.
