Algebra, chapter I, § 4. Groups and groups with operators

*A composition series of a group with operators G is a finite sequence (Gi)0≤i≤n(G_i)_{0 \leq i \leq n} of stable subgroups of G, with G0=GG_0 = G and Gn={e}G_n = \{e\} and such that Gi+1G_{i+1} is a normal subgroup of GiG_i for 0≤i≤n−10 \leq i \leq n-1. The quotients Gi/Gi+1G_i/G_{i+1} are called the quotients of the series. A composition series Σ′\Sigma' is said to be finer than a composition series Σ\Sigma if Σ\Sigma is a series taken from Σ′\Sigma'.

If (Gi)0≤i≤n(G_i)_{0 \leq i \leq n} and (Hj)0≤j≤m(H_j)_{0 \leq j \leq m} are respectively composition series of two groups with operators G and H, they are said to be equivalent if m=nm = n and there exists a permutation ϕ\phi of the interval {0,n−1}\{0, n-1\} of N\mathbf{N}, such that the groups with operators Gi/Gi+1G_i/G_{i+1} and Hϕ(i)/Hϕ(i)+1H_{\phi(i)}/H_{\phi(i)+1} are isomorphic for all ii.

Note that in general a series taken from a composition series (Gi)(G_i) is not a composition series, since for j>i+1j > i + 1, GjG_j is not in general a normal subgroup of GiG_i.

Bourbaki puts the proof directly after the statement, so what is above is the statement and its proof together.
