Algebra, chapter II, § 1. Modules

If (Mλ)λ∈L(M_\lambda)_{\lambda \in L} is a right directed family of submodules of an A-module E, the sum ∑λ∈LMλ\sum_{\lambda \in L} M_\lambda is identical with the union ⋃λ∈LMλ\bigcup_{\lambda \in L} M_\lambda.

⋃λ∈LMλ⊂∑λ∈LMλ\bigcup_{\lambda \in L} M_\lambda \subset \sum_{\lambda \in L} M_\lambda is always true without hypothesis; on the other hand, for every finite subfamily (Mλ)λ∈J(M_\lambda)_{\lambda \in J} of (Mλ)λ∈L(M_\lambda)_{\lambda \in L}, there exists by hypothesis a μ∈L\mu \in L such that Mλ⊂MμM_\lambda \subset M_\mu for all λ∈J\lambda \in J, hence ∑λ∈LMλ⊂Mμ\sum_{\lambda \in L} M_\lambda \subset M_\mu and it thus follows from Corollary 2 that ∑λ∈LMλ⊂⋃λ∈LMλ\sum_{\lambda \in L} M_\lambda \subset \bigcup_{\lambda \in L} M_\lambda.

Bourbaki puts the proof directly after the statement, so what is above is the statement and its proof together.
