Algebra, chapter II, § 1. Modules

Let u:E→Fu : E \to F be a linear mapping. For there to exist a linear mapping v:F→Ev : F \to E such that u∘v=1Fu \circ v = 1_F (the case where uu is said to be right invertible and vv is said to be the right inverse of uu), it is necessary and sufficient that uu be surjective and that its kernel be a direct factor in EE. The submodule Im⁡(v)\operatorname{Im}(v) of EE is then a supplement of Ker⁡(u)\operatorname{Ker}(u).

It is obviously necessary that uu be surjective; as vv is then a section associated with uu, the conclusion follows from Proposition 15.

Bourbaki puts the proof directly after the statement, so what is above is the statement and its proof together.
