Algebra, chapter II, § 1. Modules

Given an exact sequence of AA-modules

(33)0⟶E→fF→gG⟶0 (33)\quad 0 \longrightarrow E \xrightarrow{f} F \xrightarrow{g} G \longrightarrow 0
the following propositions are equivalent: (a) The submodule f(E)f(E) of FF is a direct factor. (b) There exists a linear retraction r:F→Er : F \to E associated with ff (Set Theory, II, § 3, no. 8, Definition 11). (c) There exists a linear section s:G→Fs : G \to F associated with gg (Set Theory, II, § 3, no. 8, Definition 11). When this is so, f+s:E⊕G→Ff + s : E \oplus G \to F is an isomorphism.

If there exists a projector ee in End(F)\mathrm{End}(F) such that e(F)=f(E)e(F) = f(E), the homomorphism f−1∘e:F→Ef^{-1} \circ e : F \to E is a linear retraction associated with ff; conversely, if there exists such a retraction rr, it is immediate that f∘rf \circ r is a projector in FF whose image is f(E)f(E), hence (a) and (b) are equivalent (Proposition 14). If f(E)f(E) admits a supplement E′E' in FF and j:E′→Fj : E' \to F is the canonical injection, g∘jg \circ j is an isomorphism of E′E' onto GG and the inverse isomorphism, considered as a mapping of GG into FF, is a linear section associated with gg. Conversely, if such a section ss exists, s∘gs \circ g is a projector in FF whose kernel is f(E)f(E), hence (a) and (c) are equivalent (Proposition 14). Moreover ss is a bijection of GG onto s(G)s(G) and as s(G)s(G) is supplementary to f(E)f(E), f+sf + s is an isomorphism.

Note that being given rr (resp. ss) is equivalent to being given a supplement of f(E)f(E) in FF, namely the kernel of rr (resp. image of ss).

When the exact sequence (33) satisfies the conditions of Proposition 15, it is said to split or (F,f,g)(F, f, g) is said to be a trivial extension of GG by EE (I, § 6, no. 1).

Bourbaki puts the proof directly after the statement, so what is above is the statement and its proof together.
