Algebra, chapter II, § 1. Modules

Let E be an A-module, the direct sum of a family (Mλ)λ∈L(M_\lambda)_{\lambda \in L} of submodules. If, for each λ∈L\lambda \in L, SλS_\lambda is a free subset (resp. generating set, basis) of MλM_\lambda, then S=⋃λ∈LSλS = \bigcup_{\lambda \in L} S_\lambda is a free subset (resp. generating set, basis) of E.

The proposition follows from the definitions and the relation As(S)=⨁λ∈LAs(Sλ)A_s^{(S)} = \bigoplus_{\lambda \in L} A_s^{(S_\lambda)} (associativity of direct sums, cf. no. 6).

Bourbaki puts the proof directly after the statement, so what is above is the statement and its proof together.
