Algebra, chapter II, § 10. Matrices

The transpose of a matrix M=(mικ)(ι,κ)∈I×KM = (m_{\iota \kappa})_{(\iota, \kappa) \in I \times K}, denoted by tM^tM, is the matrix (mκι′)(κ,ι)∈K×I(m'_{\kappa \iota})_{(\kappa, \iota) \in K \times I} over HH given by mκι′=mικm'_{\kappa \iota} = m_{\iota \kappa} for all (ι,κ)∈K×L(\iota, \kappa) \in K \times L.

It follows from this definition that the transpose of a matrix of type (I,K)(I, K) is a matrix of type (K,I)(K, I) and that

(1)

t(tM)=M. ^t(^tM) = M.

Bourbaki puts the proof directly after the statement, so what is above is the statement and its proof together.
