Algebra, chapter III, § 1. Algebras
For every A-algebra E, the canonical mapping of E into is an A-homomorphism of algebras. Moreover, for every B-algebra F and every -homomorphism , there exists one and only one -homomorphism such that for all .
The first assertion follows immediately from the definition of multiplication in , which gives for and . The existence and uniqueness of the -linear mapping of into satisfying the relation for all follow from II, § 5, no. 1, Proposition 1; here it all amounts to verifying that for and in ; as the elements of the form (with ) generate the -module , attention may be confined to the case where with ; as , the relation then follows from .
It can also be said that is a canonical bijection
The ordered pair consisting of and is therefore a solution of the universal mapping problem (Set Theory, IV, § 3, no. 1) where is the species of -algebra structure and the -mappings the -homomorphisms from to a -algebra.
Bourbaki puts the proof directly after the statement, so what is above is the statement and its proof together.
