Algebra, chapter III, § 4. Tensor products of algebras
Given a family of algebras over , the tensor product of this family, denoted by (or, when is the interval of , , or simply ) is the algebra obtained by giving the tensor product of the *-modules* the multiplication defined by (1).
Relation (1) shows that the tensor product of the opposite algebras to the is the opposite algebra to ; in particular, if the are commutative, so is .
Let and be two families of -algebras with the same finite indexing set . For each , let be an -algebra homomorphism. Then the -linear mapping
is an A-algebra homomorphism, as follows from (1).
For every partition of , the associativity isomorphisms
(II, § 3, no. 9) are also algebra isomorphisms, as follows from (1) and their definitions.
When is the interval of and all the algebras are equal to the same algebra , the tensor product algebra is also denoted by .
We shall restrict our attention in the remainder of this no. to the properties of tensor products of two algebras, leaving to the reader the task of extending them to tensor products of arbitrary finite families.
Let be two -algebras; if (resp. ) is a left ideal of (resp. ), the canonical image of in is a left ideal of ; there are analogous results when "left ideal" is replaced by "right ideal" or "two-sided ideal". Moreover:
Bourbaki puts the proof directly after the statement, so what is above is the statement and its proof together.
