Algebra, chapter III, § 11. Cogebras, products of multilinear forms, inner products and duality

(1) Let EE be a graded bigebra over AA and N,N′,N′′N, N', N'' three graded AA-modules. Let mm be an AA-bilinear mapping of N×N′N \times N' into N′′N''; for u∈HomgrA(E,N)u \in \mathrm{Homgr}_A(E, N) and v∈HomgrA(E,N′)v \in \mathrm{Homgr}_A(E, N'), let u.vu.v denote the graded homomorphism m∘(u⊗v)∘cm \circ (u \otimes v) \circ c of EE into N′′N''. On the other hand, let i(x)i(x) denote the (right or left) inner product by x∈Ex \in E in the AA-modules HomgrA(E,N)\mathrm{Homgr}_A(E, N), HomgrA(E,N′)\mathrm{Homgr}_A(E, N') and HomgrA(E,N′′)\mathrm{Homgr}_A(E, N''). Then, if xx is of degree 1,

(i(x))(u.v)=((i(x))(u)).v+u.((i(x))(v)) (i(x))(u.v) = ((i(x))(u)).v + u.((i(x))(v))
for all u∈HomgrA(E,N)u \in \mathrm{Homgr}_A(E, N) and v∈HomgrA(E,N′)v \in \mathrm{Homgr}_A(E, N').

Under the same conditions, if EE is a skew graded bigebra and uu is homogeneous of degree pp, then

(i(x))(u.v)=((i(x))(u)).v+(−1)pu.((i(x))(v)). (i(x))(u.v) = ((i(x))(u)).v + (-1)^p u.((i(x))(v)).
The proofs are the same as in Proposition 9.

(2) The same argument as in the above proof proves, more generally, that for all x∈Ex \in E, if c(x)=∑jxj′⊗xj′′c(x) = \sum_j x'_j \otimes x''_j, then, for all u,vu, v in E∗grE^{*gr}, the "Leibniz formula"

(i(x))(uv)=∑j(i(xj′))(u).(i(xj′′))(v) (i(x))(uv) = \sum_j (i(x'_j))(u).(i(x''_j))(v)
holds. In particular, for every primitive element of a graded bigebra EE, that is such that c(x)=x⊗1+1⊗xc(x) = x \otimes 1 + 1 \otimes x, i(x)i(x) is a derivation of E∗grE^{*gr}.

Bourbaki puts the proof directly after the statement, so what is above is the statement and its proof together.
