Algebra, V, p. 10, § 2. Extensions

— Let E be an extension of a field K and A⊂EA \subset E. The field K(A)K(A) is the union of the fields K(F)K(F) where F ranges over the set of all finite subsets of A.

For the set of fields K(F)K(F) is directed by the relation ⊂\subset, because F⊂F′F \subset F' implies K(F)⊂K(F′)K(F) \subset K(F'). The union L of these fields is thus a field containing K∪AK \cup A and contained in K(A)K(A), and hence identical with K(A)K(A).

Bourbaki puts the proof directly after the statement, so what is above is the statement and its proof together.
