Algebra, chapter V, § 3. Algebraic extensions

— Let EE be an extension of KK, AA an algebra over EE and xx an element of AA algebraic over KK. Then xx is algebraic over EE, the minimal polynomial of xx over EE divides the minimal polynomial of xx over KK and the degree of xx over EE is at most equal to the degree of xx over KK.

For let ff be the minimal polynomial of xx over KK; we have f(x)=0f(x) = 0 and f∈E[X]f \in E[X], hence xx is algebraic over EE and ff is a multiple of the minimal polynomial of xx over EE (Th. 1, a).

Bourbaki puts the proof directly after the statement, so what is above is the statement and its proof together.
