Algebra, V, p. 58, § 10. Galois extensions

Suppose that KK is of characteristic p≠0p \neq 0 and let K(T)K(T) be the field of rational fractions and U=Tp−TU = T^p - T. Put E=K[U]E = K[U] and F=K[T]F = K[T], then the polynomial f(X)=Xp−X−Uf(X) = X^p - X - U of E[X]E[X] has the roots T,T+1,...,T+p−1T, T+1, ..., T+p-1 in FF. Let σ\sigma be the KK-automorphism of FF such that σ(T)=T+1\sigma(T) = T+1. We have σi(T)=T+i\sigma^i(T) = T+i and σ(U)=U\sigma(U) = U. The group G={1,σ,...,σp−1}G = \{ 1, \sigma, ..., \sigma^{p-1} \} is cyclic of order pp, and its field of invariants contains EE; since [F:E]≤p[F : E] \leq p, Dedekind's theorem (V, p. 27, Cor. 2) implies that EE is the field of invariants of GG and [F:E]=p[F : E] = p. The polynomial ff is thus irreducible in E[X]E[X]; the extension FF of EE is Galois, its Galois group GG is cyclic of order pp, and the group Γ\Gamma is the group of cyclic permutations of T,T+1,...,T+p−1T, T+1, ..., T+p-1.

For a generalization of this example see V, p. 93, Example 2.

Bourbaki puts the proof directly after the statement, so what is above is the statement and its proof together.
