— Let L be a Galois extension of K. There exists a unique mapping (σ,a)↦⟨σ,a⟩ of Gal(L/K)×((Ln∩K∗)/K∗n) into μn(K) such that for every σ∈Gal(L/K) and every element 0∈L∗ such that θn∈K we have, on denoting by θn the residue class of θn mod K∗n:
⟨σ,θn⟩=σ(θ)/θ
This mapping is bimultiplicative.
In effect the right-hand side of (13) is an n-th root of unity which only depends on the residue class mod K∗n of θn; this proves the first assertion. The second assertion is verified without difficulty.
For every Galois extension L of K let us write
kL:(Ln∩K∗)/K∗n→Hom(Gal(L/K),μn(K)),
kL′:Gal(L/K)→Hom((Ln∩K∗)/K∗n,μn(K)),
for the homomorphisms derived from the above bimultiplicative mapping (V, p. 87).
Bourbaki puts the proof directly after the statement, so what is above is the statement and its proof together.
