K(φ−1(A)) is an abelian extension of K of exponent dividing p.
Since the polynomials φ−a=Xp−X−a,a∈A are separable over K, the extension L=K(φ−1(A)) is Galois. Let a∈Gal(L/K) and x∈φ−1(A); we have φ(σ(x))=φ(x), hence σ(x)−x∈Fp, that is, σ(x)=x+i,i∈Fp. This implies that σp(x)=x+pi=x, hence up=1; similarly if a′∈Gal(L/K) and σ′(x)=x+j, then we have σ∘σ′(x)=x+i+j=a′∘σ(x), so σ∘σ′=σ′∘σ.
Bourbaki puts the proof directly after the statement, so what is above is the statement and its proof together.
