For every Galois extension L of finite degree of K, the homomorphism aL is bijective.
Let x∈L be such that P(x)∈K and the residue class of P(x)modP(K) lies in the kernel of aL. For every σ∈Gal(L/K) we have by definition σ(x)=x; hence x∈K and P(x)∈P(K). This proves the injectivity of aL. Now let f:Gal(L/K)→Fp be a homomorphism; for all σ,τ∈Gal(L/K) we have
f(στ)=f(σ)+σ(f(τ)),f(σ)∈Fp.
By V, p. 65, Cor. 2 there exists x∈L such that f(u)=σ(x)−x for all o∈Gal(L/K). Since f(o)∈Fp we have P(σ(x))=P(x), hence σ(P(x))=P(x) for all a∈Gal(L/K) and P(x)∈K. If a is the residue class of P(x)modP(K), we have f(σ)=[σ,a), so f=aL(a).
Bourbaki puts the proof directly after the statement, so what is above is the statement and its proof together.
