Algebra, chapter VI, § 2. Ordered fields

— If aa is a positive element of an ordered field KK, then every splitting field EE of the polynomial X2−aX^2 - a admits the structure of an ordered extension of KK.

The result is trivial if aa is a square in KK. Otherwise the polynomial f(X)=X2−af(X) = X^2 - a is irreducible and changes sign, since f(0)<0f(0) < 0 and f(x)f(x) has the same sign as x2x^2, so positive, for xx in the complement of some interval of KK. We can now complete the proof by applying Prop. 3.

Bourbaki puts the proof directly after the statement, so what is above is the statement and its proof together.
