Topological Vector Spaces, chapter III, § 1. Bornology in a topological vector space

Let EE be a Hausdorff locally convex space and let AA be a closed, balanced, bounded and convex subset of EE. Let (xn)(x_n) be a Cauchy sequence in EAE_A. Then this sequence converges in EAE_A if and only if it converges in EE.

The canonical injection from EAE_A into EE is continuous. Hence, if (xn)(x_n) converges in EAE_A, it converges in EE. Conversely, suppose (xn)(x_n) converges to yy in EE. There exists an increasing sequence of integers (nk)(n_k) such that pA(xm−xn)≤2−k−1p_A(x_m - x_n) \leq 2^{-k-1} if m≥nkm \geq n_k and n≥nkn \geq n_k. Therefore the sequence (xnk+2−kA)(x_{n_k} + 2^{-k}A) is decreasing. Since AA is closed in EE, we have y∈⋂k(xnk+2−kA)y \in \bigcap_k (x_{n_k} + 2^{-k}A), which proves that (xnk)(x_{n_k}), hence (xn)(x_n), converges to yy in EAE_A.

Bourbaki puts the proof directly after the statement, so what is above is the statement and its proof together.
