Functions of a Real Variable, chapter II, § 1. PRIMITIVES AND INTEGRALS

The expressions ∫x0xf(t)dt\int_{x_0}^x f(t) dt and g(t)∣x0xg(t)\Big|_{x_0}^x are abbreviating symbols representing assemblies in which the letters x,x0,f,gx, x_0, f, g, but not the letter tt, appear (cf. Set Theory, I, p. 15); one says that among these symbols tt is a "*dummy variable*": one can thus replace tt by any other variable distinct from x,x0,fx, x_0, f and gg (and from variables which may possibly enter into the proof where these symbols appear) without changing the sense of the symbol so obtained (the reader may compare these symbols with symbols such as ∑i=1nxi\sum_{i=1}^n x_i, or ⋃Xi\bigcup X_i, where ii is likewise a dummy variable).

Bourbaki puts the proof directly after the statement, so what is above is the statement and its proof together.
