Functions of a Real Variable, chapter V, § 1. COMPARISON OF FUNCTIONS ON A FILTERED SET
Let g be a function in such that ; let f be a function in .
a) For f to be of order relative to g it is necessary and sufficient that for every .
b) For f to be of order relative to g it is necessary and sufficient that for every .
c) For f to be of finite order equal to relative to g it is necessary and sufficient that, for every , one has .
Let us prove c) for example. If the order of f relative to g is then for every there exists a set such that, for every , we have
or ; since one thus has for every ; the converse is immediate. The proofs of a) and b) are similar.
Note that if f is of finite order relative to g then is of order 0 relative to g, and conversely; if (resp. ) is of order (resp. ) relative to g, and if is defined, then is of order relative to g.
Bourbaki puts the proof directly after the statement, so what is above is the statement and its proof together.
