Functions of a Real Variable, chapter V, § 2. ASYMPTOTIC EXPANSIONS

For xx real tending to +∞+\infty the periodic bounded functions on R\mathbf{R}, having the same period τ\tau, satisfy conditions (CO₁), (CO₂) and (CO₃): if lim⁡x→+∞a(x)=0\lim_{x \to +\infty} a(x) = 0 then for every ε>0\varepsilon > 0 there is an x0x_0 such that ∣a(x)∣≤ε|a(x)| \leq \varepsilon for every x≥x0x \geq x_0; one deduces that ∣a(x)∣≤ε|a(x)| \leq \varepsilon for 0≤x≤τ0 \leq x \leq \tau too, since there exists an integer nn such that x+nτ≥x0x + n\tau \geq x_0, and such that a(x)=a(x+nτ)a(x) = a(x + n\tau); since ε\varepsilon is arbitrary one has a(x)=0a(x) = 0 on [0,τ][0, \tau], hence everywhere.

With the notation of V, p. 222, we will say that ∑λ≤αaλgλ\sum_{\lambda \leq \alpha} a_\lambda g_\lambda, where the aλa_\lambda belong to CC and all but a finite number of them are zero, is an asymptotic expansion of ff with coefficients in CC, to precision gαg_\alpha, if f−∑λ≤αaλgλ≪gαf - \sum_{\lambda \leq \alpha} a_\lambda g_\lambda \ll g_\alpha; for every index μ\mu such that aμ≠0a_\mu \neq 0 then aμgμa_\mu g_\mu is the principal part of f−∑λ<μaλgλf - \sum_{\lambda < \mu} a_\lambda g_\lambda, relative to E\mathscr{E} and to C′C', which proves the uniqueness of the asymptotic expansion of ff (to precision gαg_\alpha) when it exists.

The methods given in n 3 (V, p. 223) for forming an asymptotic expansion for f1+f2f_1 + f_2 or for [f1.f2][f_1 . f_2], starting from given asymptotic expansions for f1f_1 and f2f_2, can again be applied to expansions with variable coefficients, so long as the [aλ.bμ][a_\lambda . b_\mu] belong to the domain of coefficients CC corresponding to the normed space VV or admit an asymptotic expansion with coefficients in CC.

Bourbaki puts the proof directly after the statement, so what is above is the statement and its proof together.
