Integration, chapter II, § 1. Riesz spaces and fully lattice-ordered spaces

For an ordered vector space EE to be the ordered direct sum of two supplementary linear subspaces V,WV, W, it is necessary and sufficient that the relations x∈V,y∈W,x+y≥0x \in V, y \in W, x + y \geq 0 imply x≥0x \geq 0 and y≥0y \geq 0.

Since x≥0x \geq 0 and y≥0y \geq 0 imply x+y≥0x + y \geq 0 in EE, the condition in the statement says that (x,y)↦x+y(x, y) \mapsto x + y transforms the set of elements ≥0\geq 0 of V×WV \times W into the set of elements ≥0\geq 0 of EE.

Bourbaki puts the proof directly after the statement, so what is above is the statement and its proof together.
