The space M(X;R) of real measures on a locally compact space X is fully lattice-ordered.
This follows from Ch. II, §2, No. 2, Th. 1.
In conformity with the notations of Ch. II, §1, we define, for every real measure μ on X,
μ+=sup(μ,0),μ−=sup(−μ,0),∣μ∣=sup(μ,−μ);
then μ=μ+−μ−,∣μ∣=μ++μ− and inf(μ+,μ−)=0. Moreover, for every function f∈K+(X),
∫fdμ+=0≤g≤f,g∈K(X)sup∫gdμ
and
∫fd∣μ∣=∣g∣≤f,g∈K(X)sup∫gdμ,
whence, in particular,
∫fdμ≤∫∣f∣d∣μ∣
for every function f∈K(X;R).
This inequality is also true if f∈K(X;C); for, on multiplying f by a complex number of absolute value 1 (which does not change either side of the inequality), one can suppose that ∫fdμ≥0. Then
∫fdμ=∫fdμ=∫(ℜf)dμ≤∫∣ℜf∣d∣μ∣≤∫∣f∣d∣μ∣.
Bourbaki puts the proof directly after the statement, so what is above is the statement and its proof together.
