Integration, IV, p. 12, § 2. Negligible functions and sets

Given a measure μ\mu on a locally compact space XX, a subset AA of XX is said to be negligible for the measure μ\mu if ∣μ∣∗(A)=0|\mu|^*(A) = 0.

One also says that AA is μ\mu-negligible, or simply negligible if no confusion can result. It comes to the same thing to say that the characteristic function φA\varphi_A is negligible.

Bourbaki puts the proof directly after the statement, so what is above is the statement and its proof together.
