Lie Groups and Lie Algebras, chapter I, § 1. Definition of Lie algebras

In Example 1 choose LL to be the associative algebra of endomorphisms of a KK-module EE. We obtain the Lie algebra of endomorphisms of EE, denoted by gl(E)gl(E). (If E=KnE = K^n, the Lie algebra gl(E)gl(E) is denoted by gl(n,K)gl(n, K).)

Every Lie subalgebra of gl(E)gl(E) is a Lie algebra over KK. In particular: (1) If EE is given a (not necessarily associative) algebra structure, the derivations of EE form a Lie algebra over KK. (2) If EE admits a finite basis, the endomorphisms of EE of zero trace form a Lie algebra over KK denoted by sl(E)sl(E) (or sl(n,K)sl(n, K) if E=KnE = K^n).

Bourbaki puts the proof directly after the statement, so what is above is the statement and its proof together.
