Lie Groups and Lie Algebras, chapter I, § 1. Definition of Lie algebras

If a and b are ideals (resp. characteristic ideals) of g, [a, b] is an ideal (resp. a characteristic ideal) of g.

Let D be an inner derivation (resp. a derivation) of g. If x∈ax \in a and y∈by \in b, then

D([x,y])=[Dx,y]+[x,Dy]∈[a,b]. D([x, y]) = [Dx, y] + [x, Dy] \in [a, b].
Hence the proposition.

If a is a submodule of g, the set of x∈gx \in g such that (ad x).a⊂a(\mathrm{ad}\ x).a \subset a is a subalgebra n of g called the normalizer of a in g. If further a is a subalgebra of g, then a⊂na \subset n and a is an ideal of n.

Bourbaki puts the proof directly after the statement, so what is above is the statement and its proof together.
