Lie Groups and Lie Algebras, chapter I, § 4. Nilpotent Lie algebras

Let g be a Lie algebra and h an ideal of g. Suppose that g/hg/h is nilpotent and that, for all x∈gx \in g, the restriction of ad x\mathrm{ad}\ x to h is nilpotent. Then g is nilpotent.

Let x∈gx \in g. As g/hg/h is nilpotent, there exists an integer kk such that (ad x)k(g)⊂h(\mathrm{ad}\ x)^k(g) \subset h. By hypothesis there exists an integer k′k' such that (ad x)k′(h)={0}(\mathrm{ad}\ x)^{k'}(h) = \{0\}. Hence (ad x)k+k′(g)={0}(\mathrm{ad}\ x)^{k+k'}(g) = \{0\}. Corollary 2 is hence a consequence of Corollary 1.

Bourbaki puts the proof directly after the statement, so what is above is the statement and its proof together.
