Lie Groups and Lie Algebras, chapter II, § 2. Free Lie algebras

When X is empty, M(X)M(X) is empty and hence L(X)={0}L(X) = \{0\}. If X consists of a single element xx, the submodule K.xK.x of L(X)L(X) is a Lie subalgebra of

L(X); as X generates L(X), Corollary 1 to Proposition 1 shows that L(X) is a free module with basis {x}.

Bourbaki puts the proof directly after the statement, so what is above is the statement and its proof together.
