Lie Groups and Lie Algebras, chapter II, § 2. Free Lie algebras

Suppose that XX consists of two distinct elements xx and yy and let L(⋅,1)L^{(\cdot,1)} be the submodule of L(X)L(X) the sum of the Lα(X)L^\alpha(X) where α∈NX\alpha \in \mathbf{N}^X and α(y)=1\alpha(y)=1. It follows immediately from Theorem 1 and Proposition 12 of no. 10 that the elements of (ad x)n.y(\mathrm{ad}\,x)^n.y where nn is an integer ⩾0\geqslant 0 form a basis of the submodule L(⋅,1)L^{(\cdot,1)}. It follows that the restriction to L(⋅,1)L^{(\cdot,1)} of the mapping ad xx is injective.

Bourbaki puts the proof directly after the statement, so what is above is the statement and its proof together.
