Let G be a Lie group, of finite dimension if K is of characteristic >0, and let a1,…,ap be elements of L(G), F a complete normable space and α a differential form of degree p−1 on G with values in F. If α is left invariant, then
(dα)e(a1,…,ap)=i<j∑(−1)i+jαe([ai,aj],a1,…,ai−1,ai+1,…,aj−1,aj+1,…,ap).
If α is right invariant, then
(dα)e(a1,…,ap)=−i<j∑(−1)i+jαe([ai,aj],a1,…,ai−1,ai+1,…,aj−1,aj+1,…,ap). Suppose that
α is left invariant. By
Differentiable and Analytic Manifolds, R, 8.5.7, then
(dα)(La1,…,Lap)=i∑(−1)i−1Laiα(La1,…,Lai−1,Lai+1,…,Lap)+i<j∑(−1)i+jα([Lai,Laj],La1,…,Lai−1,Lai+1,…,Laj−1,Laj+1,…,Lap). But the functions
α(La1,…,Lai−1,Lai+1,…,Lap) on G are left invariant and therefore constant. Hence
Laiα(La1,…,Lai−1,Lai+1,…,Lap)=0. Moreover,
[Lai,Laj]=L[ai,aj] (Proposition 23), whence the first formula of Proposition 51. The second can be established analogously, this time using the relation
[Rai,Raj]=−R[ai,aj].
Bourbaki puts the proof directly after the statement, so what is above is the statement and its proof together.
