Lie Groups and Lie Algebras, chapter III, § 9. Commutators, centralizers and normalizers in a Lie group

Let GG be a simply connected solvable Lie group of finite-dimension nn over R\mathbf{R} or C\mathbf{C} and g=L(G)g = L(G). Let (gn,gn−1,…,g0)(g_n, g_{n-1}, \ldots, g_0) be a sequence of subalgebras of gg of dimensions n,n−1,…,0n, n-1, \ldots, 0, such that gi−1g_{i-1} is an ideal of gig_i for i=n,n−1,…,1.†i = n, n-1, \ldots, 1.\dagger Let GiG_i be the integral subgroup of GG corresponding to gig_i. Let xix_i be a vector of gig_i not belonging to gi−1g_{i-1}. Let ϕi\phi_i be the mapping

(λ1,λ2,…,λi)↦(exp⁡λ1x1)(exp⁡λ2x2)⋯(exp⁡λixi) (\lambda_1, \lambda_2, \ldots, \lambda_i) \mapsto (\exp \lambda_1 x_1)(\exp \lambda_2 x_2) \cdots (\exp \lambda_i x_i)

of KiK^i into GG. Then ϕn\phi_n is an isomorphism of analytic manifolds and ϕi(Ki)=Gi\phi_i(K^i) = G_i for all ii.

For n=0n = 0 the proposition is obvious. We argue by induction on nn. Let HH be the integral subgroup of GG such that L(H)=KxnL(H) = Kx_n. By § 6, no. 6, Corollary 1 to Proposition 14, HH and Gn−1G_{n-1} are simply connected Lie subgroups of GG and, as a Lie group, GG is the semi-direct product of HH by Gn−1G_{n-1}. Hence λ↦exp⁡(λxn)\lambda \mapsto \exp(\lambda x_n) is an isomorphism of KK onto HH and by the induction hypothesis the mapping

(λ1,λ2,…,λn−1)↦(exp⁡λ1x1)(exp⁡λ2x2)⋯(exp⁡λn−1xn−1) (\lambda_1, \lambda_2, \ldots, \lambda_{n-1}) \mapsto (\exp \lambda_1 x_1)(\exp \lambda_2 x_2) \cdots (\exp \lambda_{n-1} x_{n-1})

is an isomorphism of the analytic manifold Kn−1K^{n-1} onto the analytic manifold Gn−1G_{n-1} which maps Ki×{0}K^i \times \{0\} to GiG_i for i=1,2,…,n−1i = 1, 2, \ldots, n-1. Hence the proposition.

Bourbaki puts the proof directly after the statement, so what is above is the statement and its proof together.
