Lie Groups and Lie Algebras, chapter VI, § 4. Classification of root systems

If there exists an edge of order ≥6\geq 6, then l=2l = 2.

Indeed, let {i,j}\{i, j\} be such an edge. If l>2l > 2, one of the edges i,ji, j (say ii) would be linked to a third vertex j′j', since XX is connected. In view of the relation cos⁡π6=32\cos \frac{\pi}{6} = \frac{\sqrt{3}}{2} we would have

∑k≠iqik2≥14+(32)2=1 \sum_{k \neq i} q_{ik}^2 \geq \frac{1}{4} + (\frac{\sqrt{3}}{2})^2 = 1

which is impossible (Lemma 1).

Bourbaki puts the proof directly after the statement, so what is above is the statement and its proof together.
