General Topology, chapter II, § 1. Uniform spaces

Let XX be a set endowed with a uniform structure UU, and for each x∈Xx \in X let B(x)\mathfrak{B}(x) be the set of subsets V(x)V(x) of X(∗)X (*), where VV runs through the set of entourages of UU. Then there is a unique topology on XX such that, for each x∈Xx \in X, B(x)\mathfrak{B}(x) is the neighbourhood filter of xx in this topology.

We have to show that the B(x)\mathfrak{B}(x) satisfy conditions (V_I), (V_{II}), (V_{III}) and (V_{IV}) of Chapter I, § 1, no. 2. That this is so for the first three of

() We recall (Set Theory, R, § 3, no. 7*) that if VV is any subset of X×XX \times X and xx is any element of XX, then V(x)V(x) denotes the set of all y∈Xy \in X such that (x,y)∈V(x, y) \in V.

these conditions follows immediately from the fact that the entourages of U\mathfrak{U} satisfy (FI), (FII)(\mathbf{F}_I),\ (\mathbf{F}_{II}) and (UI)(\mathbf{U}_I). As to (VIV)(\mathbf{V}_{IV}), let VV be an entourage of U\mathfrak{U}, WW an entourage of U\mathfrak{U} such that W˙⊂V\dot{W} \subset V; then if (x,y)∈W(x, y) \in W and (y,z)∈W(y, z) \in W we have (x,z)∈V(x, z) \in V, so that W(y)⊂V(x)W(y) \subset V(x) for all y∈W(x)y \in W(x), and therefore V(x)∈B(y)V(x) \in \mathfrak{B}(y) for all y∈W(x)y \in W(x). This completes the proof.

Bourbaki puts the proof directly after the statement, so what is above is the statement and its proof together.
