General Topology, chapter X, § 4. Approximation of continuous real-valued functions

Suppose that HH is such that, whenever u∈Hu \in H and v∈Hv \in H, we have sup⁡(u,v)∈H\sup(u, v) \in H and inf⁡(u,v)∈H\inf(u, v) \in H; and is such that, given any two distinct points x,yx, y of XX and any two real numbers α,β\alpha, \beta, there is a function g∈Hg \in H such that g(x)=αg(x) = \alpha and g(y)=βg(y) = \beta. Then every continuous real-valued function on XX can be uniformly approximated by functions belonging to HH.

Bourbaki puts the proof directly after the statement, so what is above is the statement and its proof together.
