General Topology, chapter X, § 4. Approximation of continuous real-valued functions

Let XX be a compact space and let HH be a set of continuous complex-valued functions on XX which separates the points of XX. Then every continuous mapping of XX into a normed space YY over C\mathbf{C} can be uniformly approximated by polynomials in the functions f∈Hf \in H and their conjugates f‾\overline{f} with coefficients in YY.

We have only to note that YY is also a normed space over R\mathbf{R} and to apply Proposition 6 to the set of real parts and imaginary parts of the functions f∈Hf \in H, using the formulas

ℜf=12(f+f‾),ℑf=12i(f−f‾). \Re f = \frac{1}{2} (f + \overline{f}), \quad \Im f = \frac{1}{2i} (f - \overline{f}).

Bourbaki puts the proof directly after the statement, so what is above is the statement and its proof together.
