Commutative Algebra, chapter VIII, § 1. Dimension de Krull d’un anneau

Let AA be a ring and MM a finitely generated AA-module.

a) For every p∈Supp(M)p \in \mathrm{Supp}(M), one has dim⁡Ap(Mp)=codim(V(p),Supp(M))\dim_{A_p}(M_p) = \mathrm{codim}(V(p), \mathrm{Supp}(M)).

b) dim⁡A(M)\dim_A(M) is the least upper bound of the dim⁡Ap(Mp)\dim_{A_p}(M_p), where pp ranges over Spec(A)\mathrm{Spec}(A) (resp. where pp ranges over the set of maximal ideals of AA belonging to Supp(M)\mathrm{Supp}(M)).

c) Let M′M' be a finitely generated submodule of MM; then

dim⁡A(M)=sup⁡(dim⁡A(M′),dim⁡A(M/M′)). \dim_A(M) = \sup(\dim_A(M'), \dim_A(M/M')) .

a) Let aa be the annihilator of MM; then the annihilator of the ApA_p-module MpM_p is aApaA_p (II, § 2, n° 4, formule (9)), whence dim⁡Ap(Mp)=dim⁡(Ap/aAp)\dim_{A_p}(M_p) = \dim(A_p/aA_p). One concludes by prop. 7, b) of n° 3.

b) This follows at once from a) and from the fact that dim⁡Ap(Mp)=−∞\dim_{A_p}(M_p) = -\infty if pp does not belong to Supp(M)\mathrm{Supp}(M).

c) One has Supp(M)=Supp(M′)∪Supp(M/M′)\mathrm{Supp}(M) = \mathrm{Supp}(M') \cup \mathrm{Supp}(M/M') (II, § 4, n° 4, prop. 16), and one applies prop. 1 of n° 1.

Bourbaki puts the proof directly after the statement, so what is above is the statement and its proof together.
