Commutative Algebra, chapter VIII, § 3. Dimension des anneaux noethériens

The dimension of MM is the smallest of the integers d⩾0d \geqslant 0 for which there exists a sequence (x1,...,xd)(x_1, ..., x_d) of elements of mAm_A such that the AA-module M/∑i=1dxiMM / \sum_{i=1}^d x_i M is of finite length.

Since ∅\varnothing is a secant subset for MM, Theorem 1, b) proves the existence of a maximal secant sequence for MM, say (x1,...,xd)(x_1, ..., x_d). But then one has d=dim⁡A(M)d = \dim_A(M) and the AA-module M/∑i=1dxiMM / \sum_{i=1}^d x_i M is of finite length by property (iii) of Theorem 1, c). Conversely, if (x1′,...,xd′′)(x'_1, ..., x'_{d'}) is a sequence of elements of mAm_A such that the AA-module M/∑j=1d′xj′MM / \sum_{j=1}^{d'} x'_j M is of finite length, one has d′⩾dim⁡A(M)d' \geqslant \dim_A(M) by Theorem 1, a).

Recall (III, § 3, No. 2, Definition 1) that an ideal qq of a noetherian local ring AA is an ideal of definition of AA if the qq-adic and mAm_A-adic topologies of AA coincide.

Bourbaki puts the proof directly after the statement, so what is above is the statement and its proof together.
