Commutative Algebra, chapter VIII, § 3. Dimension des anneaux noethériens

Let AA be a noetherian ring, aa an ideal of AA, MM a finitely generated AA-module, A^\hat{A} and M^\hat{M} the separated completions of AA and MM respectively for the aa-adic topology.

a) Let mm be a prime ideal of AA containing aa and m^=mA^\hat{m} = m\hat{A}. Then m^\hat{m} is a prime ideal of A^\hat{A} and one has dim⁡A^m^(M^m^)=dim⁡Am(Mm)\dim_{\hat{A}_{\hat{m}}}(\hat{M}_{\hat{m}}) = \dim_{A_m}(M_m).

b) One has dim⁡A^(M^)=sup⁡mdim⁡Am(Mm)\dim_{\hat{A}}(\hat{M}) = \sup_m \dim_{A_m}(M_m), where mm ranges over the set of prime (resp. maximal) ideals of AA containing aa. In particular, one has dim⁡A^(M^)⩽dim⁡A(M)\dim_{\hat{A}}(\hat{M}) \leqslant \dim_A(M).

a) Since A^/m^\hat{A}/\hat{m} is identified with A/mA/m, m^\hat{m} is a prime ideal of A^\hat{A}. By Theorem 3 of III, §3§ 3, No. 4, A^\hat{A} is flat over AA, hence A^m^\hat{A}_{\hat{m}} is flat over AmA_m. Moreover the canonical mapping of AA into A^\hat{A} induces an isomorphism of A/aA/a onto A^/aA^\hat{A}/a\hat{A}, hence also an isomorphism of Am/mAmA_m/mA_m onto A^m^/mA^m^\hat{A}_{\hat{m}}/m\hat{A}_{\hat{m}}. The conclusion follows by applying Proposition 7 to the rings AmA_m and A^m^\hat{A}_{\hat{m}} and to the modules MmM_m and A^m^\hat{A}_{\hat{m}} since Mm⊗AmA^m^M_m \otimes_{A_m} \hat{A}_{\hat{m}} is isomorphic to M^m^\hat{M}_{\hat{m}} (III, loc. cit. and Proposition 8).

b) By Proposition 8 of III, §3§ 3, No. 4, the mapping m↦m^m \mapsto \hat{m} is a bijection of the set of maximal ideals of AA containing aa onto the set of maximal ideals of A^\hat{A}. Assertion b) follows from this and from Proposition 9 of §1§ 1, No. 4.

Bourbaki puts the proof directly after the statement, so what is above is the statement and its proof together.
