Commutative Algebra, chapter VIII, § 6. Dimension des anneaux gradués
Suppose local and artinian, finitely generated as an -algebra and finitely generated as an -module.
a) Let be elements of , homogeneous of degrees , and let be the homomorphism (of -algebras) of into which maps to for . The -module is of finite length if and only if is a finitely generated module over .
b) There exists a family of elements of , all homogeneous of the same degree , with , and such that is a maximal secant sequence for the -module . If moreover is generated by as an -algebra, and if the residue field of is infinite, one can take the of degree 1.
a) Put . We have by prop. 4. Consequently, the -module is of finite length if and only if the -module is of finite length, that is to say if and only if is a finitely generated module over . If is the module over deduced from by the homomorphism , we have . Consequently (A, II, p. 171, cor. 3 and remark) is a finitely generated module over if and only if is a finitely generated module over . This proves a).
To prove b), we shall first establish a lemma.
Bourbaki puts the proof directly after the statement, so what is above is the statement and its proof together.
