Commutative Algebra, chapter VIII, § 6. Dimension des anneaux gradués
Suppose that H is an -algebra of finite type. Then the function is upper semicontinuous on .
Since H is a finitely generated -algebra, each is a finitely generated -module (III, § 1, No. 2, corollary to Prop. 1) and H is generated as an -algebra by for a suitable integer . Let and put . By Corollary 1 to Prop. 6, there exist elements of H, all homogeneous of the same degree , such that the -homomorphism which maps to for , makes into a finite -algebra. Let denote the -homomorphism of into H which maps to for . If, for every , we put , we obtain a -grading on H, compatible with the structure of R-module given by . Each is finitely generated over . By Lemma 5, is a finitely generated -module. By Lemma 6, there therefore exists such that is a finitely generated -module. For every , is a finite -algebra, therefore (§ 2, No. 3, Theorem 1), which completes the proof.
Bourbaki puts the proof directly after the statement, so what is above is the statement and its proof together.
