Commutative Algebra, chapter IX, § 1. Vecteurs de Witt

Let A be a perfect ring of characteristic p.

a) For every element a=(an)n∈Na = (a_n)_{n \in \mathbf{N}} of W(A)W(A), the series with general term pnτ(anp−n)p^n \tau(a_n^{p^{-n}}) is convergent in W(A)W(A), with sum aa.

b) On W(A)W(A), the V1(A)V_1(A)-adic topology, the pp-adic topology and the topology G\mathscr{G} coincide. More precisely, one has Vn(A)=pn.W(A)=(V1(A))nV_n(A) = p^n.W(A) = (V_1(A))^n for every integer n⩾0n \geqslant 0. In particular Φ0\Phi_0 defines an isomorphism of W(A)/p.W(A)W(A)/p.W(A) onto AA.

By definition (A, V, p. 5), the mapping a↦apa \mapsto a^p is an automorphism of the ring AA. According to prop. 5, F is therefore an automorphism of the ring W(A)W(A), and one has, for every n∈Nn \in \mathbf{N},

pn.W(A)=VnFn(W(A))=Vn(W(A))=Vn(A). p^n.W(A) = V^n F^n(W(A)) = V^n(W(A)) = V_n(A).

In particular, one has (V1(A))n=(p.W(A))n=pn.W(A)(V_1(A))^n = (p.W(A))^n = p^n.W(A). The assertion b) follows from this.

According to prop. 5, one has

pn.τ(anp−n)=VnFnτ(anp−n)=Vnτ(an), p^n.\tau(a_n^{p^{-n}}) = V^n F^n \tau(a_n^{p^{-n}}) = V^n \tau(a_n),

and the assertion a) follows from prop. 4 of no 6.

Bourbaki puts the proof directly after the statement, so what is above is the statement and its proof together.
