Commutative Algebra, chapter X, § 2. Modules et anneaux macaulayens

Let AA be a noetherian ring and MM a finitely generated AA-module. One says that MM is Macaulay or is a Macaulay module if, for every maximal ideal m∈Supp(M)m \in \mathrm{Supp}(M), one has profAm(Mm)=dim⁡Am(Mm)\mathrm{prof}_{A_m}(M_m) = \dim_{A_m}(M_m).

From the above, it amounts to the same thing to say that one has profAm(Mm)≥dim⁡Am(Mm)\mathrm{prof}_{A_m}(M_m) \geq \dim_{A_m}(M_m) for every maximal ideal mm of AA. Let AA be a noetherian local ring; in order that a nonzero finitely generated AA-module be Macaulay, it is necessary and sufficient that its depth be equal to its dimension.

Bourbaki puts the proof directly after the statement, so what is above is the statement and its proof together.
