Commutative Algebra, chapter X, § 2. Modules et anneaux macaulayens

Let A be a noetherian ring, M a finitely generated A-module, and S a finite subset of A. The following conditions are equivalent:

(i) the subset S of A is strongly secant for M; (ii) for every element pp of Supp(M/SM), the canonical mapping A→ApA \to A_p induces a bijection of S onto a subset of pAppA_p secant for MpM_p.

(i) ⇒\Rightarrow (ii) : Let p∈Supp⁡(M/SM)p \in \operatorname{Supp}(M/SM) and let S′S' be the image of S in ApA_p. The set S′S' is contained in the maximal ideal pAppA_p, and one has

dim⁡(Mp/S′Mp)=codim⁡(V(p),Supp⁡(M/SM)) \dim(M_p/S'M_p) = \operatorname{codim}(V(p), \operatorname{Supp}(M/SM))

(VIII, § 1, No. 4, Prop. 9). The inequality Card(S) ≤codim⁡(Supp⁡(M/SM),Supp⁡(M))\leq \operatorname{codim}(\operatorname{Supp}(M/SM), \operatorname{Supp}(M)) and Prop. 3 b) of VIII, § 1, No. 2 imply the relations

Card(S)+dim⁡(Mp/S′Mp)≤codim⁡(V(p),Supp⁡(M))=dim⁡(Mp). \text{Card}(S) + \dim(M_p/S'M_p) \leq \operatorname{codim}(V(p), \operatorname{Supp}(M)) = \dim(M_p) .

Since MpM_p is nonzero, one has on the other hand dim⁡(Mp)≤Card(S′)+dim⁡(Mp/S′Mp)\dim(M_p) \leq \text{Card}(S') + \dim(M_p/S'M_p) (VIII, § 3, No. 2, formula (8)). Condition (ii) then follows from the inequality Card(S′)≤Card(S)\text{Card}(S') \leq \text{Card}(S).

(ii) ⇒\Rightarrow (i) : One may suppose SM ≠\neq M. If condition (ii) is satisfied, one has for every prime ideal pp of Supp(M/SM)

Card(S)=Card(S′)≤dim⁡(Mp)=codim⁡(V(p),Supp⁡(M)), \text{Card}(S) = \text{Card}(S') \leq \dim(M_p) = \operatorname{codim}(V(p), \operatorname{Supp}(M)) ,

which implies (i) by passing to the greatest lower bound.

Bourbaki puts the proof directly after the statement, so what is above is the statement and its proof together.
