Commutative Algebra, chapter X, § 2. Modules et anneaux macaulayens

Let AA be an integrally closed ring, KK its field of fractions, LL a finite KK-algebra such that [L:K]1A[L : K] 1_A is invertible in AA, and BB a sub-AA-algebra of LL, finite over AA.

a) The sub-AA-*module* AlBAl_B of BB is a direct factor.

b) For every ideal JJ of AA, one has the inequality profA(J;A)≥profB(JB;B)\mathrm{prof}_A(J; A) \geq \mathrm{prof}_B(JB; B).

c) If BB is a Macaulay ring, the same is true of AA.

The KK-linear mapping TrL/K:L→K\mathrm{Tr}_{L/K} : L \to K maps BB into AA (V, §1§ 1, No. 6, corollary 2 to Prop. 17), and therefore defines by restriction an AA-linear mapping t:B→At : B \to A. For every x∈Ax \in A, we have t(xlB)=[L:K]xt(xl_B) = [L : K] x, whence a).

By Proposition 4 of §1§ 1, No. 3, we have profA(J;B)=profB(JB;B)\mathrm{prof}_A(J; B) = \mathrm{prof}_B(JB; B); but by a) and Remark 4 of §1§ 1, No. 1, we have profA(J;A)≥profA(J;B)\mathrm{prof}_A(J; A) \geq \mathrm{prof}_A(J; B), whence b).

If the ring BB is noetherian, the same is true of AA: in fact, by a) we have aB∩A=aaB \cap A = a for every ideal aa of AA; thus every increasing sequence (an)n∈N(a_n)_{n \in \mathbf{N}} of ideals of AA is stationary since the sequence (anB)n∈N(a_nB)_{n \in \mathbf{N}} is stationary. Under the hypotheses of c), the AA-module BB is Macaulay (Corollary 2), and the same is true of the AA-module AA (No. 1, Example 2).

Bourbaki puts the proof directly after the statement, so what is above is the statement and its proof together.
